Day -4

Before training "officially" begins, here's a few pointer to get you going in the right direction. These tips will go beyond whatever information you learn here.

  1. Never increase mileage more than 10% each week. That's how I ended up with a stress fracture big enough to be seen on a plain X-Ray, and was out for 6 months.
  2. It's better to overdress in shells than to under dress. This way you can always take off clothing if you get too hot.
  3. Invest in a good pair of running shoes! It is arguably the most important piece of the running puzzle.
  4. Make sure you replace you're shoes after ~300 miles. After this point, they lose their ability to support and cushion you.
  5. Get a field hockey ball. You can use it as a cheap alternative to a foam roller for relieving muscle tension before and after a workout.
  6. Remember, asphalt road is actually a softer surface to run on than concrete.
Follow these tips and you'll be on you're way to running success!

  1. This stuff should be helpful to me, I used to run 4 years ago and was a good sprinter but stopped, now my endurance sucks these days and I'm slow, need to get back into the habit!

  2. Thanks for the tips! Really handy.
My friend was on track & field and his shoes got seperated from the sole while he was running. 6 months in the hospital but won the lawsuit against ADIDAS who sponsored him the shoes. He could have checked them on first place....

  3. Thanks for the tips man I actually just started running again. After a lot of weight lifting I have a lot more weight on my body so I always worry about getting shin splints now.

  4. The weight lifting should actually help a lot in the long run. Stronger muscles support joints better, which leads to less joint related injuries.

  5. Thanks for the tips! I hurt my ankle pretty badly when I was younger, so I can't do impact activities like running for long distances, so I have to use the elliptical

  6. Good advice! I ran a 5k 2 months ago with no training. Dress warm but not too warm if it's winter!

  7. Good advice ステーキ

I trained for a while before my first 5k, time was 17:28. Hard work really does pay off

  8. I've always wished I had the discipline to run well. I'm built for it, I just never bothered.

    Maybe I'll start now.

  9. Thanks for the advice.
If I jog a few miles a week, do you know how long approximately it will take before ~300 miles is up?

  10. For me, it usually takes around 3-4 months. But it also depends on what surfaces you're running on. A good test is to take the shoe, and try bending it. If you find that it bends way to easily, it may be time for a new pair. Also, look at the treads on the bottom, it's just like a car tire.

  13. Got any tips for someone with flat feet but really really wants to run?

  14. @Shadowman 6: I'd say just buy orthotics. They're basically little inserts that you can put in your shoes that should that help correct your gait.
